## What is a begeleidingsbrief?

The begeleidingsbrief is the transport document every load of waste in the Netherlands must travel with, whoever moves it. Its form is fixed by article 6 of the Regeling melden bedrijfsafvalstoffen en gevaarlijke afvalstoffen: a white original and three carbon copies, or four when a dealer or broker organises the transport.

The disposer must give it to whoever transports the waste, the transporter carries it and hands it over, and the receiver may only accept waste that comes with one.

## Where to get a begeleidingsbrief

Each set is numbered: the transporter and the receiver sign for the load “met gelijkgenummerde vrachtbrief”. Beurtvaartadres sells the numbered sets, and firms printing their own ask Beurtvaartadres for a number series.

Paper is the rule. A digital begeleidingsbrief on a card, on-board computer, tablet or phone is allowed only with the minister’s permission, which the LMA grants; it lists the systems approved.

## How to fill in a begeleidingsbrief

Dark boxes are always required, hatched boxes only when the situation calls for them, and white boxes are optional. Optional: postcodes, the invoice address, the date received, the estimated quantity and the sender’s signature.

The disposer signs when the waste leaves, keeps the white original and gives the copies to the transporter. The transporter signs for the load. The receiver fills in the date received and the weighed quantity for each waste stream on the copies and signs.

The afvalstroomnummer, Eural code and processing method must match what was agreed with the receiver when the waste stream was registered.

## When you don’t need one

No begeleidingsbrief is needed for a load carried in a vehicle you can drive on a category B licence (not BE), for up to 500 kg of non-hazardous waste, for imports and exports that already carry an EVOA document or Annex VII, and for a few household-type wastes taken straight to a transfer station.

### Who fills in the begeleidingsbrief?

### Can I print a begeleidingsbrief myself?

### Where does the afvalstroomnummer come from?

### How long do I keep the begeleidingsbrief?
