## What is EWC chapter 19 for?

Waste produced by waste management sites, off-site waste water treatment plants, and plants treating drinking water or water for industry. It has 13 sub-chapters, from incineration (19 01) to soil and groundwater remediation (19 13). Transfer stations, MRFs, crushers and composters use it for what leaves their site.

## When does treated waste get a chapter 19 code?

When treatment changes what the waste is: burning, composting, anaerobic digestion, shredding metal, or sorting mixed waste into separate materials. If a site only bulks it up, stores it or picks a few items out, the waste keeps the code it arrived with: mixed packaging stays 15 01 06.
