## What goes under 19 12 04?

Plastic and rubber that a waste site has sorted, shredded or otherwise mechanically treated out of other waste. GOV.UK says it’s only for a single stream that has been properly separated from other wastes. SEPA gives shredded tyres as an example. It has no asterisk and no hazardous twin, so it moves on a waste transfer note.

## When is sorted plastic 19 12 12 instead?

When the load holds more than one type of waste, such as plastic with paper or glass. GOV.UK says that makes it mixed, so the single-stream codes can’t be used. It’s then [19 12 12](https://complyonsite.com/tools/ewc-code-finder?code=19-12-12), or 19 12 11* if an assessment finds it hazardous.
