## Is bonded asbestos 17 06 05*?

Yes. Bonded and fibrous asbestos are classified the same way. Asbestos cement sheets and other building materials containing asbestos are 17 06 05*. Insulation containing asbestos, such as pipe lagging, is 17 06 01*. A piece is hazardous when it holds 0.1% asbestos or more, and there’s no non-hazardous asbestos code: below 0.1%, the material is coded as the waste it’s part of.

## EWC code for asbestos in soil or rubble

Pieces of asbestos-containing material are assessed on their own, so the load becomes a mixed waste with more than one code: 17 06 05* for the pieces, and a separate code for the soil or rubble. Loose asbestos fibres at 0.1% or more of the soil make the soil itself hazardous, 17 05 03*. Each code goes on its own line.

## Does asbestos from a house need a consignment note?

Yes. In England, most hazardous waste from a home can go to a collection point without one, but asbestos always needs a consignment note. A contractor removing asbestos from a home fills it in as the producer, giving their own business name with the address of the home.
