## Which RCRA codes can apply to used oil?

Decide whether the oil is recycled or disposed of before assigning hazardous waste codes.

| Code | When it applies |
| --- | --- |
| [D001](https://complyonsite.com/tools/rcra-waste-codes?code=d001) | A representative oil sample meets the [flash-point criterion or another applicable D001 test](https://complyonsite.com/tools/rcra-waste-codes?code=d001) |
| [D004](https://complyonsite.com/tools/rcra-waste-codes?code=d004) | Arsenic leaching from used oil reaches the [TCLP limit](https://complyonsite.com/tools/rcra-waste-codes?code=d004) |
| [D006](https://complyonsite.com/tools/rcra-waste-codes?code=d006) | Cadmium leaching from used oil reaches the [TCLP limit](https://complyonsite.com/tools/rcra-waste-codes?code=d006) |
| [D007](https://complyonsite.com/tools/rcra-waste-codes?code=d007) | Chromium leaching from used oil reaches the [TCLP limit](https://complyonsite.com/tools/rcra-waste-codes?code=d007) |
| [D008](https://complyonsite.com/tools/rcra-waste-codes?code=d008) | Lead leaching from used oil reaches the [TCLP limit](https://complyonsite.com/tools/rcra-waste-codes?code=d008) |
| [D018](https://complyonsite.com/tools/rcra-waste-codes?code=d018) | Benzene leaching from used oil reaches the [TCLP limit](https://complyonsite.com/tools/rcra-waste-codes?code=d018) |
| [F001](https://complyonsite.com/tools/rcra-waste-codes?code=f001) | Mixing added spent degreasing solvent listed as [F001](https://complyonsite.com/tools/rcra-waste-codes?code=f001) |
| [F002](https://complyonsite.com/tools/rcra-waste-codes?code=f002) | Mixing added spent halogenated solvent listed as [F002](https://complyonsite.com/tools/rcra-waste-codes?code=f002) |

## What evidence decides used oil?

Presume the oil was mixed with listed halogenated hazardous waste. Unless you rebut that presumption, manage it as hazardous.

The presumption doesn't apply to chlorinated-paraffin metalworking oil reclaimed through the specified tolling arrangement.

It also excludes qualifying CFC-contaminated refrigeration oil sent for CFC reclamation.

That exception ends if the oil was mixed with used oil from other sources.

Part 279 doesn't apply when listed hazardous waste is mixed into the oil, or when another rule replaces that route.

Individuals are outside the Part 279 generator standards for oil from maintaining their personal vehicles or equipment. So is a farmer whose farm vehicles or machinery average 25 gallons or less each month.

More than 1,000 ppm total halogens creates a rebuttable mixing presumption. The result alone doesn't choose F001, F002 or another listing.

## Can used oil follow a different route?

Used oil from genuine household activity can be excluded. Check the [household waste rule](https://complyonsite.com/tools/rcra-waste-codes?list=routes).

Recycled used oil normally follows Part 279. Oil sent for disposal needs a hazardous-waste determination and the characteristic code checks.
