## Is there a waste transfer note in Ireland?

Not for non-hazardous waste. Irish law sets no transfer note like the UK’s. Instead, anyone collecting waste as a business needs a waste collection permit, and the permit makes the collector keep records of each load: the types and quantities, List of Waste codes, where it came from and where it went, for at least 7 years.

Hazardous waste is different: it moves on a Waste Transfer Form bought from Dublin City Council’s portal.

## What a waste docket should show

The EPA’s guidelines for construction and demolition projects ask the site’s Resource Manager to get a signed docket from the haulier for every load leaving site, showing what the waste is, its LoW code, the quantity (usually in tonnes), the haulier’s name and collection permit, the vehicle registration and the destination with its authorisation.

This docket holds those items, a signature for the site and one for the haulier. The facility’s weight can be added from its ticket afterwards.

## Checking the haulier and the facility

A waste collection permit lasts up to five years; check the haulier’s is current and covers the waste on the NWCPO register. The facility needs a certificate of registration, waste facility permit or waste licence that allows that waste and the treatment it will get.
