Baghouse filters from making antimony oxide

Industry: Inorganic chemicals.

K-listed waste from inorganic chemical plants, hazardous for toxicity. Includes filters from antimony metal & crude antimony oxide.

Is K176 hazardous waste?

Yes. K176 is a nonacute K-listed hazardous waste when the waste comes from the named process and stream. The federal table gives it hazard code (E), meaning toxicity characteristic.

Source decides a K listing, not a concentration test. A test can add a characteristic code, but it doesn't remove the K176 listing.

On a required hazardous waste manifest, put K176 in Item 13. See VSQG exemptions and empty-container rules.

What does K176 cover?

Baghouse filters from making antimony oxide, including filters from making intermediates (e.g., antimony metal or crude antimony oxide). The waste form and its exact source process must both match the listing, so chemical content alone isn't enough.

Are antimony oxide baghouse filters always K176?

CodeWhen it fits
K176Baghouse filters from producing antimony oxide, including filters from producing intermediates (e.g., antimony metal or crude antimony oxide).
K177Antimony-oxide production slag, including intermediate-production slag, was disposed of or speculatively accumulated.
K178Residues from manufacturing and manufacturing-site storage of ferric chloride from acids formed during the production of titanium dioxide using the chloride-ilmenite process.

The industry, production step and waste form tell these K listings apart, not the chemicals alone. The rows show nearby listed streams, not every code that could fit. Add any characteristic or other listing that also fits, because one waste can carry more than 1 federal code.

When does the old-disposal exception affect K176?

Under 261.4(b)(15), landfill leachate or gas condensate from K176 waste disposed of before May 20, 2002 is excluded only if it has no hazardous waste characteristic, comes from no other listed hazardous waste, and its discharge is regulated under Clean Water Act section 307(b) or 402. From November 21, 2003, holding it in a surface impoundment before discharge ends the exclusion. The one exception is temporary emergency storage in a double-lined impoundment, followed by compliant management.
