U095, 3,3′-Dimethylbenzidine.

  • U-listed waste

    3,3′-Dimethylbenzidine

U-list unused product.

Toxic U-listed hazardous waste for unused 3,3′-dimethylbenzidine, a dye chemical, also called o-tolidine.

Is U095 hazardous waste?

Yes, when the listing applies. U095 covers unused 3,3′-Dimethylbenzidine that is thrown away, including off-specification product and qualifying residues. It is a U-listed waste, not an acute P-listed one. Whether it is listed depends on the product and how it is discarded, not on a TCLP result alone.

U095 is nonacute hazardous waste once the listing holds. On a required hazardous waste manifest, put U095 in Item 13. Also read VSQG exemptions and empty-container rules and pharmaceutical containers.

What does U095 cover?

Unused 3,3′-Dimethylbenzidine counts when it is discarded pure, in technical grade, or as the only active ingredient of a formulation. Off-specification batches, residues left in non-empty containers and spill cleanup residues of those products count too. Inactive ingredients don't stop it being the sole active ingredient.

Is waste 3,3′-Dimethylbenzidine always U095?

CodeWhen it fits
U095The unused chemical is thrown away pure, in technical grade or as the sole active ingredient. Qualifying product residues count too.
Characteristic waste (D001–D043)A used chemical or a different formulation shows a hazardous-waste characteristic. Assess any process listings too.

The rows can stack, since an unused listed product can also show a characteristic. Finding the chemical in manufacturing waste doesn't make that waste U095. Go by where the waste came from, what was in it and how it was used. Mixing listed waste with other solid waste, or treating it, usually doesn't end the listing. That takes an exclusion, an exception or an approved delisting.
