Where does Alberta D13 go on the Uniform Waste Code record?
In the management-code component. Alberta D13 describes what is done with the waste, not what the waste is or whether it is hazardous. It comes last in the Uniform Waste Code, after the waste category, transport product identification number and transport class. D operations are for disposal or treatment and R operations are for recovery or recycling.
The code must match what the receiving facility will actually do. Alberta’s guide shows how the codes are built but is not a current register of approved facilities. If the shipment needs an Alberta hazardous waste manifest, the consignor fills in the waste details and the receiver records receipt and handling in Part C. The code doesn't decide whether a manifest is needed.
What does Alberta D13 cover?
Mixing or blending waste before it goes through an operation in the disposal section. This code describes the step, not a material or contaminant. It is one part of Alberta’s industrial identification system, and the same waste category takes a different management code when the actual treatment, disposal or recovery changes.
