Pick the province and keep the material description. Federal cross-border identification and the province's disposal rules are separate checks.

When is asbestos waste excluded or below the paperwork threshold in Canada?
| Place | Exclusions, thresholds and applicable routes |
|---|---|
| Ontario | Asbestos waste is non-hazardous solid industrial waste and is excluded from liquid industrial waste, so asbestos alone needs no HWP hazardous-waste manifest. Section 17 requires dust-tight packaging, a signed vehicle, a direct haul to an accepting landfill and no transfer station. Other hazardous contamination needs a separate assessment. s. 1 definitions; s. 17 |
| Alberta | Asbestos is non-hazardous waste, so it needs no hazardous waste manifest or recycle docket. Use a TDG shipping document only when the actual form is dangerous goods. Transportation of dangerous goods |
| Quebec | Asbestos is excluded unless article 4(5)–(8) applies. That means petroleum hydrocarbons C10–C50 at 3% or more, total organic halogens above 1,500 mg/kg, the PCB conditions or specified surface contamination. art. 2(14.2), art. 4(5)–(8) |
| British Columbia | Non-friable material, or asbestos at 1% by weight or less, falls outside the waste-asbestos definition route. Assess other hazardous contamination on its own. This is not permission to treat all bound asbestos as ordinary disposal material. s. 1, waste asbestos definition |
