Alberta oilfield special-handling waste codes
asbestos
AER special-handling oilfield category.
Is Alberta ASBEST hazardous waste?
No, under Alberta’s hazardous-waste rules. Asbestos is non-hazardous waste in Alberta and can’t go on an Alberta hazardous-waste manifest. ASBEST is the AER code for asbestos waste from the upstream oilfield route. Special asbestos handling and any dangerous-goods shipping document are separate from that decision.
Dangerous oilfield waste stays on the AER route within Alberta. It doesn’t use an Alberta hazardous-waste manifest unless it is exported from Alberta. Record the AER code in the oilfield waste information. A regulated export also needs the federal movement assessment, and a generic industrial category doesn’t replace the AER code.
What does Alberta ASBEST cover?
Asbestos that needs special handling. Follow Alberta’s asbestos-disposal guideline and accepted industry practice. The waste’s actual composition and properties still decide whether it is dangerous and how it is handled.
Is asbestos always Alberta ASBEST?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| ASBEST | The waste comes from the AER upstream oilfield route and the material matches this stream. |
Oilfield origin is part of the choice. Waste from an unrelated industrial activity doesn’t become oilfield waste because its material has a similar name.
