WSTRDM, Discarded radioactive material.
Alberta oilfield special-handling waste codes
Discarded radioactive material
AER special-handling oilfield category.
Is Alberta WSTRDM hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. Alberta WSTRDM is the AER oilfield-waste code for discarded radioactive material. It fits only waste from the upstream facilities, wells or pipelines on that route. The code alone doesn't make the waste dangerous oilfield waste.
Dangerous oilfield waste stays on the AER route inside Alberta. It needs an Alberta hazardous-waste manifest only if it is exported from Alberta. Record the AER code in the oilfield waste information. A regulated export also needs the federal movement assessment, and a generic industrial category can't replace the AER code.
What does Alberta WSTRDM cover?
Radioactive waste requiring special handling. Use this code only when none of the other listed codes applies. Consult the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission. The code is tied to upstream oilfield origin. The actual composition and properties still decide whether the waste is dangerous and how to handle it.
When does discarded radioactive material Alberta WSTRDM fall under Alberta WSTRDM?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| WSTRDM | The waste comes from the AER upstream oilfield route and its material matches this stream. |
Origin matters. Waste from an unrelated industrial activity doesn't become oilfield waste because its material has a similar name.
