Where does Alberta R8 go on the Uniform Waste Code record?
In the management-code component. Alberta R8 says what is done with the waste, not what it is or how hazardous it is. Alberta’s industrial guide puts the operation last in the Uniform Waste Code, after waste category, transport product identification number and transport class. D operations are for disposal or treatment and R operations are for recovery or recycling.
The code must describe what the receiving facility will actually do. The guide shows the coding structure but isn’t a current register of facility approvals. If the shipment needs an Alberta hazardous waste manifest, the consignor fills in the waste information and the receiver records receipt and handling in Part C. The operation code doesn’t decide whether the manifest is needed.
What does Alberta R8 cover?
Recovering components contained in catalysts. The value describes the management step, not a material or contaminant. It is one part of Alberta’s industrial identification system, and the same waste category can need a different management code when the actual treatment, disposal or recovery operation changes.
Is recovering catalyst components always Alberta R8?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| R8 | The step actually carried out matches the operation’s definition. |
A management code doesn’t authorize the operation or show that a named facility can take the shipment. Assess the hazardous-waste, recyclable and oilfield routes separately.
