    Dimethoate — an organophosphate insecticide

P-list unused product.

Acute hazardous P-listed waste for unused dimethoate, a toxic organophosphate insecticide used on crops. Unused product only.

Is P044 hazardous waste?

Yes, when the listing applies. Unused dimethoate thrown away is P044, including off-specification product and qualifying residues. The P listing makes it acute hazardous waste, so the stricter acute quantities apply even to a small amount.

On a required hazardous waste manifest, put P044 in Item 13. The VSQG exemptions and empty-container rules and the rules for pharmaceutical containers may also matter.

What does P044 cover?

This covers unused dimethoate thrown away as pure or technical grade, or in a formulation where it is the only active ingredient. Off-specification batches, residues left in containers that aren’t empty, and spill cleanup residues from those products count too. Inactive ingredients don’t change the sole-active-ingredient test.

Is dimethoate waste always P044?

CodeWhen it fits
P044The unused chemical is thrown away, as pure or technical grade or as the sole active ingredient. Qualifying product residues fit too.
Characteristic waste (D001–D043)A used chemical or a different formulation meets a hazardous-waste characteristic. Check any process listings that apply too.

Both rows can apply at once, since a listed unused product can also show a characteristic. Having this chemical in a manufacturing waste doesn’t make that waste P044. Match the waste’s origin, formulation and use history. Mixing a listed waste with solid waste, or treating it, usually doesn’t remove the listing. That takes an exclusion, an exception or an approved delisting.
