Is Alberta 221 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. Alberta 221 is an industrial category for light fuels. Waste is hazardous only when it has a Schedule 1 property or listing and no Schedule 2 exclusion applies. The category number settles neither. For liquids, Alberta’s ignitability test includes a flash point of 60.5°C or lower.
For regulated hazardous waste sent for disposal, the consignor enters the waste details on the Alberta hazardous waste manifest. Alberta’s exclusions and shipment rules still apply.
What does Alberta 221 cover?
Waste fuels. The category gives the material or process part of the Uniform Waste Code. Transport identification, transport class and the management operation are separate parts. The industrial identification guide describes the category, and the Waste Control Regulation decides hazardous status and exclusions.
