Alberta Uniform Waste Code category.
Is Alberta 311 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. Alberta 311 is an industrial category for organic tannery residue. Waste is hazardous only when it has a Schedule 1 property or listing and no Schedule 2 exclusion applies. The category number settles neither.
For regulated hazardous waste sent for disposal, the consignor enters the waste details on the Alberta hazardous waste manifest. Alberta’s exclusions and shipment rules also apply.
What does Alberta 311 cover?
Organic tannery residue. The category gives the material or process part of the Uniform Waste Code. Transport identification, transport class and the management operation are separate parts. The industrial identification guide describes the category, and the Waste Control Regulation sets hazardous status and exclusions.
When do I use Alberta 311?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| 311 | The stream is organic tannery residue. |
| 144 | The material is liquid tannery sludge, not the organic tannery-residue stream. |
Hazardous recyclables follow Alberta’s separate recycle-docket rules. The industrial category doesn't decide the document.
