Is Alberta WPAINT hazardous waste?

Not from the code alone. Alberta WPAINT is the AER oilfield-waste code for paints. It fits only waste from the upstream facilities, wells or pipelines on that route. The code alone doesn't make the waste dangerous oilfield waste.

Dangerous oilfield waste stays on the AER route inside Alberta. It needs an Alberta hazardous-waste manifest only if it is exported from Alberta. Record the AER code in the oilfield waste information. A regulated export also needs the federal movement assessment, and a generic industrial category can't replace the AER code.

What does Alberta WPAINT cover?

Oil-, water- or lead-based paint, sandblast paint, brushes or epoxy material. Consult Alberta’s accepted industry practices for managing paint waste. The code is tied to upstream oilfield origin. The actual composition and properties still decide whether the waste is dangerous and how to handle it.
