Ontario waste characterizations
Waste containing PCBs
Use D when the Ontario flowchart makes this the primary characterization.
Where does Ontario D go on the Ontario manifest?
After the 3-digit waste class. The letter D is the primary characterization in Ontario’s waste number. The generator picks it by working through the whole registration flowchart, not by choosing a hazard from the waste’s name. When several characterizations apply, the first one the flowchart reaches is primary.
For a subject-waste shipment, enter the class-and-letter waste number in the waste details of the Ontario hazardous waste manifest. The generator registers the stream and certifies the shipment details. Streams under land-disposal-restriction notification also need their secondary characterizations identified.
What does Ontario D cover?
Ontario uses D for waste containing PCBs when its flowchart makes D the primary characterization. The letter goes with the 3-digit class for the material or process. The letter gives the characterization and the class identifies the waste stream. Together they make the Ontario waste number.

Registration and manifest exclusions still apply. A characterization letter doesn’t remove a specific exclusion or bring every shipment under the Registry.
