E011, Methylene chloride (also called Dichloromethane).

  • Ontario leachate quality criteria

    Methylene chloride (also called Dichloromethane)

Ontario TCLP limit: 5 mg/L for Methylene chloride (also called Dichloromethane).

Methylene chloride waste. Chlorinated paint stripper & degreaser solvent, also called dichloromethane. Ontario TCLP limit 5 mg/L.

Is Ontario E011 hazardous waste?

Yes, when the leachate limit is met. Ontario sets the leachate limit for methylene chloride (also called Dichloromethane) at 5 mg/L in the TCLP extract. A result at 5 mg/L meets it, subject to the regulation’s exclusions. A concentration in the original bulk waste is a different measurement, so it can't be compared with this limit.

For a shipment of this waste, the generator enters the 3-digit class and primary characterization in the waste-number details of the Ontario hazardous waste manifest. This number names the constituent for the assessment but doesn't replace the class-and-letter waste number. Land-disposal treatment standards are assessed separately.

What does Ontario E011 cover?

This number is a limit on methylene chloride (also called Dichloromethane) in the extract from the Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure. The limit is 5 mg/L. It covers leachate toxicity, whatever the source industry, container or physical form. Ontario sets treatment requirements for land disposal separately.

Is methylene chloride always Ontario E011?

CodeWhen it fits
E011The TCLP extract holds 5 mg/L or more.
This constituent criterion not metThe TCLP extract is below 5 mg/L.

A result below the limit clears this constituent only. Other constituents, characteristic hazards and listed-waste rules still need assessing. Test against the classification limit first, then the land-disposal treatment standard.
