Ontario leachate quality criteria
Temephos
Ontario TCLP limit: 28 mg/L for Temephos.
Is Ontario E123 hazardous waste?
Yes, when the leachate limit is met. This Ontario class is hazardous when the TCLP extract holds temephos at 28 mg/L or more. A result exactly at the limit counts, subject to the regulation’s exclusions. A concentration in the original bulk waste is a different measure.
For a shipment of this waste, the generator records the 3-digit class and primary characterization in the waste-number details of the Ontario hazardous waste manifest. The hazardous-waste number names the constituent for the assessment. It doesn't replace the class-and-letter waste number. Land-disposal treatment standards are assessed separately.
What does Ontario E123 cover?
This class covers temephos in the extract from the Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP), with a limit of 28 mg/L. It describes a leachate-toxic constituent, not an industry, container or physical form. Ontario sets treatment requirements for land disposal separately.

Is temephos always Ontario E123?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| E123 | The TCLP extract holds 28 mg/L or more of the constituent. |
| This constituent criterion not met | The TCLP extract holds less than 28 mg/L. Other hazardous criteria still need assessing. |
A result below the limit for one constituent says nothing about other constituents, characteristic hazards or listed-waste rules. Apply the classification limit first, then look at the separate land-disposal treatment standard.
