P005, Allyl alcohol.

  • Acute hazardousP-listed waste

    Allyl alcohol

P-list unused product.

Acute hazardous P-listed waste for unused allyl alcohol, a toxic, flammable liquid used as a chemical intermediate.

Is P005 hazardous waste?

Yes, when the listing applies. P005 covers discarded, unused allyl alcohol, including off-specification product and qualifying residues. It is acute hazardous waste, so the stricter acute quantities apply even for a small amount of chemical.

On a required hazardous waste manifest, put P005 in Item 13. See VSQG exemptions and empty-container rules and pharmaceutical containers.

What does P005 cover?

Unused allyl alcohol discarded as pure or technical grade, or in a formulation where it is the only active ingredient. This includes off-specification batches, residues in nonempty containers and spill cleanup residues. Inactive ingredients don't stop it being the only active ingredient.

Is unused allyl alcohol always P005?

CodeWhen it fits
P005The unused chemical is thrown away as pure or technical grade, or as the only active ingredient. Qualifying product residues count too.
Characteristic waste (D001–D043)A used chemical or a different formulation shows a hazardous waste characteristic. Check any process listings that fit too.

A listed unused product can also show a characteristic, so these rows can apply together. A manufacturing waste that merely contains this chemical isn't P005. Match the waste's origin, formulation and use history. Mixing listed waste with solid waste, or treating it, generally doesn't remove the listing. Only an exclusion, exception or approved delisting does.
