Alberta oilfield waste codes
Used absorbent materials
AER oilfield waste code.
Is Alberta ABSRAG hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. Alberta ABSRAG is the AER oilfield-waste code for used absorbent materials. The waste must come from the upstream facilities, wells or pipelines on that route. Having the code doesn’t make the waste dangerous oilfield waste.
Dangerous oilfield waste stays on the AER route within Alberta. It doesn’t use an Alberta hazardous-waste manifest unless it is exported from Alberta. Record the AER code in the oilfield waste information. A regulated export also needs the federal movement assessment, and a generic industrial category doesn’t replace the AER code.
What does Alberta ABSRAG cover?
Absorbent materials thrown away at an upstream oilfield site. Oil-soaked rags are one example. The waste’s actual composition and properties still decide whether it is dangerous and how it is handled.
Are used absorbent materials always Alberta ABSRAG?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| ABSRAG | The waste comes from the AER upstream oilfield route and the material matches this stream. |
Oilfield origin is part of the choice. Waste from an unrelated industrial activity doesn’t become oilfield waste because its material has a similar name.
