Alberta oilfield waste codes
Sulphur catalyst
AER oilfield waste code.
Is Alberta CATSU hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. Alberta CATSU is the AER oilfield-waste code for sulphur catalyst. The waste must come from the upstream facilities, wells or pipelines on that route. Having the code doesn’t make the waste dangerous oilfield waste.
Dangerous oilfield waste stays on the AER route within Alberta. It doesn’t use an Alberta hazardous-waste manifest unless it is exported from Alberta. Record the AER code in the oilfield waste information. A regulated export also needs the federal movement assessment, and a generic industrial category doesn’t replace the AER code.
What does Alberta CATSU cover?
Catalyst that contains sulphur. Follow Alberta guidance for landfilling sulphur waste and cleaning up sulphur-affected soil. The waste’s actual composition and properties still decide whether it is dangerous and how it is handled.
Is sulphur catalyst always Alberta CATSU?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| CATSU | The waste comes from the AER upstream oilfield route and the material matches this stream. |
Oilfield origin is part of the choice. Waste from an unrelated industrial activity doesn’t become oilfield waste because its material has a similar name.
