    desiccant

AER oilfield waste code.

Used desiccant, the drying agent that pulls water out of gas streams. It is spent once it can hold no more water.

Is Alberta DESICT hazardous waste?

Not from the code alone. Alberta DESICT is the AER oilfield-waste code for desiccant. The waste must come from the upstream facilities, wells or pipelines on that route. Having the code doesn’t make the waste dangerous oilfield waste.

Dangerous oilfield waste stays on the AER route within Alberta. It doesn’t use an Alberta hazardous-waste manifest unless it is exported from Alberta. Record the AER code in the oilfield waste information. A regulated export also needs the federal movement assessment, and a generic industrial category doesn’t replace the AER code.

What does Alberta DESICT cover?

Desiccant. The waste’s actual composition and properties still decide whether it is dangerous and how it is handled.

Is desiccant always Alberta DESICT?

CodeWhen it fits
DESICTThe waste comes from the AER upstream oilfield route and the material matches this stream.

Oilfield origin is part of the choice. Waste from an unrelated industrial activity doesn’t become oilfield waste because its material has a similar name.
