    Water-based drilling waste

AER oilfield waste code.

Drilling waste from wells drilled with water-based mud, including rock cuttings. Oil-based mud is DRWSHC.

Is Alberta DRWSWB hazardous waste?

Not from the code alone. Alberta DRWSWB is the AER oilfield-waste code for water-based drilling waste. The waste must come from the upstream facilities, wells or pipelines on that route. Having the code doesn’t make the waste dangerous oilfield waste.

Dangerous oilfield waste stays on the AER route within Alberta. It doesn’t use an Alberta hazardous-waste manifest unless it is exported from Alberta. Record the AER code in the oilfield waste information. A regulated export also needs the federal movement assessment, and a generic industrial category doesn’t replace the AER code.

What does Alberta DRWSWB cover?

Water-based drilling cuttings or fluids made with brine, gel chemical or advanced gel chemical, managed under Directive 050 or 058. The waste’s actual composition and properties still decide whether it is dangerous and how it is handled.

Is water-based drilling waste always Alberta DRWSWB?

CodeWhen it fits
DRWSWBThe waste comes from the AER upstream oilfield route and the material matches this stream.

Oilfield origin is part of the choice. Waste from an unrelated industrial activity doesn’t become oilfield waste because its material has a similar name.
