AER oilfield waste code.
Is Alberta FILTER hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. Alberta FILTER is the AER oilfield-waste code for filters. The waste must come from the upstream facilities, wells or pipelines on that route. Having the code doesn’t make the waste dangerous oilfield waste.
Dangerous oilfield waste stays on the AER route within Alberta. It doesn’t use an Alberta hazardous-waste manifest unless it is exported from Alberta. Record the AER code in the oilfield waste information. A regulated export also needs the federal movement assessment, and a generic industrial category doesn’t replace the AER code.
What does Alberta FILTER cover?
Filters from air-pollution control, raw or fresh water, glycol, methanol, raw gas, fuel gas or NGL, produced or process water, gas sweetening with MEA, DEA, MDEA or sulphinol, lubricating oil, or another service. For drained and underdrained lubricating-oil filters, follow Alberta waste-manager guidance on waste type 201. The waste’s actual composition and properties still decide whether it is dangerous and how it is handled.
Are filters always Alberta FILTER?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| FILTER | The waste comes from the AER upstream oilfield route and the material matches this stream. |
Oilfield origin is part of the choice. Waste from an unrelated industrial activity doesn’t become oilfield waste because its material has a similar name.
Which wastes take Alberta FILTER?
| Waste | When it’s FILTER |
