AER oilfield waste code.
Is Alberta FRMFNS hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. Alberta FRMFNS is the AER oilfield-waste code for formation fines left after treatment and settling. The waste must come from the upstream facilities, wells or pipelines on that route. Having the code doesn’t make the waste dangerous oilfield waste.
Dangerous oilfield waste stays on the AER route within Alberta. It doesn’t use an Alberta hazardous-waste manifest unless it is exported from Alberta. Record the AER code in the oilfield waste information. A regulated export also needs the federal movement assessment, and a generic industrial category doesn’t replace the AER code.
What does Alberta FRMFNS cover?
Formation fines carried in produced water recovered while swabbing a low-pressure well, only where the work added no acid, chemical, solvent, surfactant, soap or other additive. Separate the material on site. Classify the solids here and the liquid as WATER. HSPWTR may also apply. The waste’s actual composition and properties still decide whether it is dangerous and how it is handled.
Are formation fines always Alberta FRMFNS?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| FRMFNS | The waste comes from the AER upstream oilfield route and the material matches this stream. |
Oilfield origin is part of the choice. Waste from an unrelated industrial activity doesn’t become oilfield waste because its material has a similar name.
