    high solids produced water

AER oilfield waste code.

Water from oil & gas wells that carries a heavy load of suspended solids. An AER oilfield code.

Is Alberta HSPWTR hazardous waste?

Not from the code alone. Alberta HSPWTR is the AER oilfield-waste code for high solids produced water. The waste must come from the upstream facilities, wells or pipelines on that route. Having the code doesn’t make the waste dangerous oilfield waste.

Dangerous oilfield waste stays on the AER route within Alberta. It doesn’t use an Alberta hazardous-waste manifest unless it is exported from Alberta. Record the AER code in the oilfield waste information. A regulated export also needs the federal movement assessment, and a generic industrial category doesn’t replace the AER code.

What does Alberta HSPWTR cover?

Produced water with wellbore fines, recovered by swabbing a low-pressure well, only where no acid, chemical, solvent, surfactant, soap or other additive was added. Separate it on site and use FRMFNS for solids and WATER for liquid. Use HSPWTR for off-site processing when fines make disposal impractical. The waste’s actual composition and properties still decide whether it is dangerous and how it is handled.

Is high solids produced water always Alberta HSPWTR?

CodeWhen it fits
HSPWTRThe waste comes from the AER upstream oilfield route and the material matches this stream.

Oilfield origin is part of the choice. Waste from an unrelated industrial activity doesn’t become oilfield waste because its material has a similar name.
