Alberta oilfield waste codes
Lead-based pipe dope or grease
AER oilfield waste code.
Is Alberta LDDOPE hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. Alberta LDDOPE is lead-based pipe dope or grease in the AER oilfield-waste system. The waste must come from upstream facilities, wells or pipelines on that route. The code doesn’t say whether it is dangerous oilfield waste.
Dangerous oilfield waste stays on the AER route within Alberta and needs no Alberta hazardous-waste manifest unless it leaves Alberta. Record the AER code in the oilfield waste information. A regulated export also needs the federal movement assessment, and a generic industrial category doesn’t replace the AER code.
What does Alberta LDDOPE cover?
Lead-containing pipe dope or grease put on drill pipe and collars to protect them from drilling fluids and hydrogen sulphide. The code names the stream for the AER system. Its actual composition and properties still decide whether it is dangerous and how it is handled.
Is lead-based pipe dope or grease always Alberta LDDOPE?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| LDDOPE | The waste comes from the AER upstream oilfield route and is this material. |
Origin matters. Waste from an unrelated industry doesn’t become oilfield waste because its material has a similar name.
