    Specified mainly inorganic waste

Use B2040 for specified mainly inorganic waste as a Basel List B waste without an Annex III hazard.

Basel List B code for mainly inorganic waste, such as waste plasterboard, broken concrete, carborundum, sulphur and chloride salts.

Is Basel B2040 hazardous waste?

Not from the code alone. Basel B2040 is on Basel List B, so material that matches it is normally outside the Convention's hazardous definition. That changes if Annex I constituents give it an Annex III hazardous characteristic. SOR/2021-25, including its exclusions, decides Canadian federal control.

On a federally regulated international shipment, the applicant enters the waste classification in the waste line of the federal notification in CNMTS. The movement rules and exclusions still apply.

What does Basel B2040 cover?

Covers mainly inorganic waste of these kinds. Partly refined calcium sulphate from flue-gas desulphurization. Demolition gypsum board or plasterboard. Chemically stabilized copper-production slag with more than 20% iron, processed to standards such as DIN 4301 or DIN 8201 and used mainly for construction or abrasives. Solid sulphur. Limestone from calcium-cyanamide production, below pH 9. Sodium, potassium or calcium chlorides. Silicon carbide. Broken concrete. Glass scrap that contains lithium-tantalum or lithium-niobium.
