    Leachate

Use H13 when the material presents leachate.

Waste that, once disposed of, can yield a second material such as leachate with hazardous traits. A federal H characteristic code.

Is Federal H13 hazardous waste?

Not from this code alone. Federal H13 is one part of how hazardous waste and hazardous recyclable material are described. It names a characteristic, and federal status depends on the full evidence and on the definitions and exclusions in SOR/2021-25.

On a federally regulated international shipment, the applicant records the waste classification in the waste-line details of the federal notification in CNMTS. The movement rules and exclusions apply.

What does Federal H13 cover?

This covers waste that can produce another material after disposal, by any means, where that material has one of the listed hazard characteristics. Leachate is an example. It describes what could happen after disposal, not one named contaminant or leachate concentration.

Official wording
Any substance or waste that is capable, by any means after disposal, of yielding another material (e.g., leachate that possesses any of the characteristics listed in this Part). (Leachate)

Is leachate-forming waste Federal H13 or another code?

CodeWhen it fits
H13After disposal, the waste can produce another material with a listed hazard characteristic.

Decide from where the material came from, how it was used, what is in it and the test results. A shared chemical or process word doesn't make 2 codes interchangeable. The full listed condition and any federal exclusion still decide.
