E104, Boron.

  • Ontario leachate quality criteria

    Boron

Ontario TCLP limit: 500 mg/L for Boron.

Boron waste. Element found in fertilizers, glass, cleaning products & fire retardants. Ontario TCLP limit 500 mg/L.

Is Ontario E104 hazardous waste?

Yes, when the leachate limit is met. Ontario sets the leachate limit for boron at 500 mg/L in the TCLP extract. A result at 500 mg/L meets it, subject to the regulation’s exclusions. A concentration in the original bulk waste is a different measurement, so it can't be compared with this limit.

For a shipment of this waste, the generator enters the 3-digit class and primary characterization in the waste-number details of the Ontario hazardous waste manifest. This number names the constituent for the assessment but doesn't replace the class-and-letter waste number. Land-disposal treatment standards are assessed separately.

What does Ontario E104 cover?

This number is a limit on boron in the extract from the Toxicity Characteristic Leaching Procedure. The limit is 500 mg/L. It covers leachate toxicity, whatever the source industry, container or physical form. Ontario sets treatment requirements for land disposal separately.

Is boron always Ontario E104?

CodeWhen it fits
E104The TCLP extract holds 500 mg/L or more.
This constituent criterion not metThe TCLP extract is below 500 mg/L.

A result below the limit clears this constituent only. Other constituents, characteristic hazards and listed-waste rules still need assessing. Test against the classification limit first, then the land-disposal treatment standard.
