What a good snag entry says

A photo reference beats a paragraph.

  • Where

Room, wall or grid line, so someone who missed the walk can find it.

  • What, in one line

What is wrong, as you would say it to the person fixing it.

  • Who puts it right

The trade or company that owns it.

  • When and who checks

A date to finish by, and who sees it done.

Two ways to keep your snag list

On paper, from the template

  • Print the blank and walk the job
  • Hand each trade its own sheet
  • Photos stay on someone’s phone

On your phone with Site Issues

  • Each snag keeps its number
  • Photos stay with the snag
  • One list per project

Snag list questions

Are these real jobs?

No. The company, project and rows are made up. The kinds of snag come from published snagging checklists and warranty tolerances.

Can I use one as it is?

No. Walk your own job and write down what you find. Use an example to see the level of detail, then change the locations, trades and people.

Snag list or snagging list?

The same thing. UK sites use both, and some call it a snag sheet or a defects list.

What goes on a handover list?

Everything still open at the walk with the client, room by room, plus documents still to come, such as O&M manuals and as-built drawings. A signed list records that walk. It is not a practical completion certificate.

Excel or Word?

Excel if you want to sort or filter by trade. Word if you want to edit the page as it prints. Both open with the same rows as the PDF.

Where is the blank?

On the snag list template, with your logo and columns.
