Ontario ignitable, corrosive and reactive waste numbers
Ignitable waste
D001 is a hazardous-waste number, separate from the three-digit waste class.
Is Ontario D001 hazardous waste?
Yes, when the characteristic definition is met. Ontario D001 marks the ignitable waste characteristic in the land-disposal system. Apply the definition and its test conditions, then the exclusions. The number marks the characteristic only. The waste’s 3-digit class and primary characterization stay separate.
For a subject-waste shipment, use the class-and-letter waste number in the waste details of the Ontario hazardous waste manifest. Put the hazardous-waste number in the land-disposal assessment and notification where one applies. Keep both identifiers, because neither replaces the other.
What does Ontario D001 cover?
Liquid waste is ignitable below a 61°C flash point, except an aqueous solution with less than 24% alcohol by volume. Solids qualify if they burn dangerously after friction, moisture or spontaneous change. TDG Class 2.1 flammable gas, Class 5.1 oxidizers and Class 5.2 organic peroxides also qualify.

Does ignitable waste count as Ontario D001?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| D001 | The waste meets an Ontario ignitability route, including the liquid exception and the prescribed test conditions. |
The prescribed test or definition sets the characteristic. A product hazard label or a material name alone doesn’t prove the waste result, and other hazardous criteria still need checking.
