Corrosive waste
Ontario’s corrosive-waste characteristic.
Is Ontario D002 hazardous waste?
Yes, when the characteristic definition is met. Ontario D002 marks the corrosive waste characteristic in the land-disposal system. Apply the definition and its test conditions, then the exclusions. The number marks the characteristic only. The waste’s 3-digit class and primary characterization stay separate.
For a subject-waste shipment, use the class-and-letter waste number in the waste details of the Ontario hazardous waste manifest. Put the hazardous-waste number in the land-disposal assessment and notification where one applies. Keep both identifiers, because neither replaces the other.
What does Ontario D002 cover?
Aqueous waste qualifies at pH 2 or lower, or at 12.5 or higher. A liquid also qualifies if it corrodes SAE 1020 steel faster than 6.35 mm per year at 55°C. Solids mixed 50% by weight with distilled water use the same pH limits. The wood-combustor ash and paper-industry exclusions still apply.

Does corrosive waste count as Ontario D002?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| D002 | The waste passes the pH or steel-corrosion test, under the conditions and exclusions in the corrosive-waste definition. |
The prescribed test or definition sets the characteristic. A product hazard label or a material name alone doesn’t prove the waste result, and other hazardous criteria still need checking.
