What does EWC code 20 02 01 cover?
20 02 01 is biodegradable waste from gardens and parks: grass, hedge and tree cuttings, leaves and branches, from homes, businesses and grounds. It isn’t hazardous. In England, a workplace that produces garden waste must have it recycled or composted where that gives the best environmental outcome.
Is forestry or farm plant waste a different EWC code?
| Waste | Code |
|---|---|
| Forestry waste | 02 01 07 |
| Plant waste from farming and horticulture | 02 01 03 |
| Soil and stones from gardens and parks | 20 02 02 |
| Soil dug out in building work | 17 05 04 or 17 05 03* |
Chapter 02 is for agriculture, horticulture and forestry. 20 02 is for gardens and parks.
Can Japanese knotweed go in green waste?
No. Knotweed has to go to a landfill site or incinerator with a permit to take invasive plants, and you must check with the site before sending it. It can’t go in a green waste or compost collection. See Japanese knotweed for how to code it and move it.
