U037, Chlorobenzene.
U-listed waste
Chlorobenzene
U-list unused product.
Is U037 hazardous waste?
Yes, when the listing applies. U037 covers the unused chlorobenzene described below when it is discarded, including off-specification product and qualifying residues. It is a U-listed waste, not an acute P-listed one. The listing depends on the product and how it is discarded, not on a TCLP result alone.
U037 is nonacute hazardous waste. On a required hazardous waste manifest, put U037 in Item 13. See VSQG exemptions and empty-container rules and pharmaceutical containers.
What does U037 cover?
This covers unused chlorobenzene discarded in pure or technical grade, or in a formulation where it is the only active ingredient. It also covers off-specification batches, residues in nonempty containers and spill cleanup residues from those products. Inactive ingredients don't stop chlorobenzene counting as the sole active ingredient.

Is chlorobenzene waste always U037?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| U037 | The unused chemical is discarded as a pure or technical grade product or as the sole active ingredient. Residues from that product also count. |
| D021 | The TCLP extract holds chlorobenzene at 100 mg/L or more. The product listing may apply as well. |
| F002 | It is spent after solvent use, or is a recovery still bottom. Degreasing can also bring F001 into scope. |
| Characteristic waste (D001–D043) | A used chemical or a different formulation meets a hazardous-waste characteristic. Check any process listings that apply too. |
Both can apply, since a listed unused product can also show a characteristic. Having this chemical in a manufacturing waste doesn't make the waste U037. Match the waste's origin, formulation and use history. Mixing listed waste with solid waste, or treating it, doesn't normally remove the listing. Only an exclusion, an exception or an approved delisting does. Solvent use matters. Using the chemical as an ingredient or reactant doesn't make it a spent F-listed solvent. Check each listing's blend conditions before use.
Which wastes take U037?
