Which form fits refrigerant gas cylinders?
| Form | When it fits |
|---|---|
| 801 | Discarded organic gas left in the cylinder, unless the used-CFC reclamation exclusion applies. |
Is used refrigerant excluded from hazardous waste?
40 CFR 261.4(b)(12) excludes used chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) refrigerant from hazardous-waste regulation when it is reclaimed for further use. The CFC must come from totally enclosed heat-transfer equipment.
The exclusion doesn't cover every refrigerant, unused product or discarded cylinder. Recover refrigerant as required before disposing of equipment, and don't use form 801 for an excluded reclaimed CFC stream.
Is refrigerant cylinder waste the gas or the cylinder?
Code the discarded gas separately from an empty metal container. A returnable cylinder sent back for continued use is not a discarded gas stream.
Use the container forms for the empty cylinder and the inorganic gas form 701 for the gas.
