Is Alberta 122 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. Alberta 122 is an industrial category for other cyanide-free alkaline waste. A waste is hazardous only when it has a Schedule 1 property or listing and no Schedule 2 exclusion applies. The code number proves neither. Alberta treats a waste as corrosive when its pH is below 2.0 or above 12.5. A pH of exactly 2.0 or 12.5 doesn’t meet that test.
For regulated hazardous waste sent for disposal, the consignor enters the waste details on the Alberta hazardous waste manifest. Alberta’s exclusions and shipment rules apply as well.
What does Alberta 122 cover?
Cyanide-free alkaline residues with other metals or non-metals. The category is the material or process part of the Uniform Waste Code. Transport identification, transport class and the management operation are separate parts. The industrial identification guide describes the category, and the Waste Control Regulation decides hazardous status and exclusions.
Is cyanide-free alkaline waste Alberta 122 or 123?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| 122 | Cyanide-free alkaline residues with other metals or non-metals. |
| 123 | Alkaline phosphate material, not the other cyanide-free alkaline stream. |
Hazardous recyclables follow Alberta’s separate recycle-docket rules. The industrial category doesn’t decide the document.
