Alberta Uniform Waste Code category.
Is Alberta 123 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. Alberta 123 is an industrial category for alkaline phosphate waste. A waste is hazardous only when it has a Schedule 1 property or listing and no Schedule 2 exclusion applies. The code number proves neither. Alberta treats a waste as corrosive when its pH is below 2.0 or above 12.5. A pH of exactly 2.0 or 12.5 doesn’t meet that test.
For regulated hazardous waste sent for disposal, the consignor enters the waste details on the Alberta hazardous waste manifest. Alberta’s exclusions and shipment rules apply as well.
What does Alberta 123 cover?
Alkaline phosphate waste. The category is the material or process part of the Uniform Waste Code. Transport identification, transport class and the management operation are separate parts. The industrial identification guide describes the category, and the Waste Control Regulation decides hazardous status and exclusions.
Is alkaline phosphate waste Alberta 123 or 122?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| 123 | Alkaline phosphate waste. |
| 122 | Another cyanide-free alkaline stream with metals or non-metals. |
Hazardous recyclables follow Alberta’s separate recycle-docket rules. The industrial category doesn’t decide the document.
