Basel List B codes
Non-hazardous dispersible zinc ash and residue
Use B1080 for non-hazardous dispersible zinc ash and residue as a Basel List B waste without an Annex III hazard.
Is Basel B1080 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. Basel B1080 is on Basel List B, so matching material is normally not hazardous under the Convention. It becomes hazardous if Annex I constituents give it an Annex III hazardous characteristic. SOR/2021-25 and its exclusions decide Canadian federal control.
On a federally regulated international shipment, the applicant enters the waste classification in the waste-line details of the federal notification in CNMTS. The movement rules and exclusions say when that applies.
What does Basel B1080 cover?
Covers zinc ash and other dispersible zinc residue, alloy residue included, unless Annex I constituents are concentrated enough to cause an Annex III characteristic. The status of zinc ash is under review. UNCTAD has received a recommendation that zinc ash should not be treated as dangerous goods.
