Basel List B codes
Non-hazardous mixed non-ferrous heavy scrap
Use B1050 for non-hazardous mixed non-ferrous heavy scrap as a Basel List B waste without an Annex III hazard.
Is Basel B1050 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. Basel B1050 is on Basel List B, so matching material is normally not hazardous under the Convention. It becomes hazardous if Annex I constituents give it an Annex III hazardous characteristic. SOR/2021-25 and its exclusions decide Canadian federal control.
On a federally regulated international shipment, the applicant enters the waste classification in the waste-line details of the federal notification in CNMTS. The movement rules and exclusions say when that applies.
What does Basel B1050 cover?
Covers the heavy fraction of mixed non-ferrous metal scrap, when Annex I material stays below the level that would give an Annex III characteristic. Later processing, including recycling, can concentrate low starting Annex I contamination in separated fractions.
