Basel List B codes
Specification-grade batteries without lead, cadmium or mercury
Use B1090 only when its complete Basel List B codes description applies.
Is Basel B1090 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. Basel B1090 is on Basel List B, so matching material is normally not hazardous under the Convention. It becomes hazardous if Annex I constituents give it an Annex III hazardous characteristic. SOR/2021-25 and its exclusions decide Canadian federal control.
On a federally regulated international shipment, the applicant enters the waste classification in the waste-line details of the federal notification in CNMTS. The movement rules and exclusions say when that applies.
What does Basel B1090 cover?
Covers discarded batteries that meet a specification and are made without lead, cadmium or mercury. List B treatment holds only while the waste has no Annex III hazardous characteristic.
