Basel List B codes
Specified metal-production residues
Use B1100 for specified metal-production residues as a Basel List B waste without an Annex III hazard.
Is Basel B1100 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. Basel B1100 is on Basel List B, so matching material is normally not hazardous under the Convention. It becomes hazardous if Annex I constituents give it an Annex III hazardous characteristic. SOR/2021-25 and its exclusions decide Canadian federal control.
On a federally regulated international shipment, the applicant enters the waste classification in the waste-line details of the federal notification in CNMTS. The movement rules and exclusions say when that applies.
What does Basel B1100 cover?
Covers these metal-bearing residues from melting, smelting or refining. They are hard zinc spelter, galvanizing slab-zinc top dross above 90% zinc, galvanizing slab-zinc bottom dross above 92% zinc, zinc die-casting dross above 85% zinc, batch hot-dip galvanizer slab-zinc dross above 92% zinc, zinc skimmings, and aluminum skimmings other than salt slag.

Is metal-production residues always Basel B1100?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| B1100 | A listed metal-bearing smelting or refining residue that meets its composition limit. |
List B is a condition, not an exemption. If the material has an Annex III hazardous characteristic, or meets another Canadian or foreign hazardous-waste definition, classify it by its actual hazard and follow the rules that control the movement.
Detailed conditions for Basel B1100
It also covers copper slag for further processing or refining where arsenic, lead and cadmium don't cause an Annex III characteristic, refractory-lining waste (crucibles included) from copper smelting, slag from precious-metal processing that will be refined further, and tin slag with tantalum and less than 0.5% tin.
