    Halogen-containing solvent waste

Ontario group: halogenated organic wastes.

Halogen-containing solvent waste, spent solvents with chlorine or other halogens, in Ontario's halogenated organic wastes group.

Is Ontario 241 hazardous waste?

Not from the code alone. Ontario 241 names the waste stream. Whether the waste is subject waste depends on its hazardous characterization or liquid-industrial status, and on the exclusions. The waste number also needs a primary characterization letter after the 3-digit class.

For subject waste, the generator enters the class-and-letter waste number in the waste details of the Ontario hazardous waste manifest. Ontario’s exclusions and shipment rules apply.

What does Ontario 241 cover?

Residues and solvents containing halogens. Examples are used perchloroethylene, trichloroethylene, carbon tetrachloride or another halogenated solvent, including dry-cleaning solvent. It also takes bottom material from a halogenated-solvent still, and residue or catalyst from making or recycling halogenated hydrocarbons. Whether it is hazardous is a separate decision under Ontario’s waste rules.

Is halogenated solvent waste Ontario 241 or another class?

CodeWhen it fits
241The stream is residue or solvent containing halogens.

When several characterizations apply, the registration flowchart picks the primary one. The 3-digit class doesn’t replace the flowchart or the exclusions.
