Other organic waste chemicals
Ontario group: miscellaneous organic wastes and mixed wastes.
Is Ontario 263 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. Ontario 263 names the waste stream. Whether the waste is subject waste depends on its hazardous characterization or liquid-industrial status, and on the exclusions. The waste number also needs a primary characterization letter after the 3-digit class.
For subject waste, the generator enters the class-and-letter waste number in the waste details of the Ontario hazardous waste manifest. Ontario’s exclusions and shipment rules apply.
What does Ontario 263 cover?
A catch-all class for organic laboratory chemicals, surplus stock and off-specification organic chemicals that no named class describes. Try the solvent, pharmaceutical, pesticide and other specific classes first. Being organic separates it from the miscellaneous inorganic chemical class.
Is other organic waste chemical Ontario 263 or another class?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| 263 | The stream is surplus, off-specification or laboratory organic chemicals with no specific class. |
| 148 | The miscellaneous discarded chemical is inorganic, not organic. |
| 261 | The waste is pharmaceutical or veterinary pharmaceutical material in that class. |
| 241 | The waste is a solvent stream with at least 2% halogenated organic material by weight. |
Start from the chemical’s identity and what made the waste, and find the specific class first. The organic and inorganic miscellaneous classes cover different chemical groups, and neither is a catch-all for an unknown mixture.
