How much household hazardous waste can you deliver in California?
For waste from your own home, first confirm that a household hazardous waste program accepts it. You can then deliver it with no manifest, waste code or ID number.
The normal trip limit is 5 gallons or 50 lb. A local program can allow up to 15 gallons or 125 lb.
If you carry liquids and solids together, ask the program for its combined limit. Waste from a business isn't household waste just because the work was done at a home.
Contractors must qualify for a business route.
Which business deliveries can a California household collection facility accept?
An authorized household hazardous waste facility can accept qualifying very small quantity generator business waste after advance confirmation. Monthly limits are 100 kg of nonacute waste and 1 kg each of acute or extremely hazardous waste.
Self-delivery is limited to 27 gallons or 220 lb, and never more than 100 kg a month. Call before each delivery, because the facility doesn't have to accept business waste.
