PCBs and PCB-containing material
Waste form and PCB concentration decide the entry. See PCB guidance.
Restricted wasteCalifornia restricted wastes
Restricted PCB liquid
Measured PCB concentration is at least 50 mg/L in liquid
When to use 731Organics
PCB-containing material
PCB-bearing solids, or liquid below the restricted concentration
When to use 261
Which California code fits PCBs and PCB-containing material?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| 731 | Measured PCB concentration is at least 50 mg/L in liquid |
| 261 | PCB-bearing solids, or liquid below the restricted concentration |
The classification and shipping rules still apply.
How do you report PCB results in California?
Record whether the waste is liquid or solid, and the concentration with its units. Milligrams per liter (mg/L) measures liquid concentration. Milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) measures concentration by mass.
Does the restricted California PCB code cover solids?
Code 731 is for liquid. You can't compare a solid PCB result with that entry by swapping mg/kg for mg/L. Go by the form of the material as well as its concentration.
