Which California paint can go to a collection program?

Latex paint qualifies for recycling collection only when it is liquid and water-based. Send it to an authorized collection location.

Collection of non-RCRA oil-based paint is limited to households and qualifying very small quantity generators. A contractor above those limits can't use that route.

PaintCare accepts qualifying architectural paint, but not industrial coatings, paint sludge or cleaning solvent. Confirm acceptance and use the original package or a closed, labeled container.

Which California paint shipments need a manifest?

Oil-based paint leaving a consolidation location needs a manifest and registered hauler. The same applies to non-recyclable hazardous latex paint.

Paint sent for disposal needs a hazardous waste determination. Non-hazardous paint needs no hazardous waste code.
