Polymeric resin waste
Hazardous waste made of polymerized resin.
Is California code 272 hazardous waste?
Not from the code alone. Waste must first be found hazardous. Code 272 isn't a restricted code, but a restricted category that fits takes priority over it. A code that isn't restricted doesn't make waste non-hazardous.
When a shipment needs the Uniform Hazardous Waste Manifest, enter 272 in Item 13 for the waste line. Use one California code, plus the federal RCRA codes when the waste is federally hazardous.
RCRA waste meets a federal listing or characteristic, with no federal exclusion that applies. Non-RCRA waste is hazardous under California rules only. California presumes hazardous waste is RCRA unless the generator shows it isn't, so keep that determination.
What does California code 272 cover?
This code is for hazardous waste made of polymeric resin. Polymerization has happened, which separates it from organic monomer waste and unreacted resin. It doesn't cover discarded adhesive.

Is cured resin waste California code 272, 271 or 281?
| Code | When it fits |
|---|---|
| 272 | The hazardous resin waste is polymeric because polymerization has occurred. |
| 271 | The waste is an organic monomer or resin that has not polymerized. |
| 281 | The discarded hazardous material is an adhesive rather than resin sorted by polymerization state. |
Go by the material's composition and reaction state. A cured look alone doesn't classify the waste.
